The Las Gaviotas female coffee cooperative honors the tradition, hard work, and skill of growing top-quality coffee in Colombia. This group of about 40 women farmers, led by Ana Gloria Rodriguez, works together to cultivate and process coffee using sustainable methods that ensure excellent quality.
In Colombian coffee culture, these women, known as Chapoleras, are recognised for their simple white outfits. As they move through the coffee fields in Huila, at altitudes of 1,500 to 1,600 meters above sea level, they resemble seagulls, or "Gaviotas" in Spanish, inspiring the cooperative’s name.
Each woman owns a small farm, ranging from 1 to 5 hectares. Driven by a love for their land and community, the cooperative fosters empowerment and community development among its members, making their work about more than just coffee—it’s about building a stronger future together.
